Teachers Union of Zimbabwe Holds Capacity Building Workshop for Women in Education
In a significant step toward empowerment and professional development, the Teachers Union of Zimbabwe recently organized a targeted capacity-building workshop for its female members. The event was designed to equip women educators with advanced leadership skills, deepen their understanding of labor rights, and strengthen their role within the union and the broader education sector.
The workshop focused on critical areas such as advocacy and negotiation techniques, navigating career progression in education, and strategies for addressing gender-specific challenges in the workplace. Participants engaged in practical sessions on policy interpretation, collective bargaining, and effective communication, aimed at fostering greater confidence and influence in both school and union structures.
A core objective of the initiative is to build a strong pipeline of women leaders who can actively participate in and shape the union’s direction, ensuring that the unique perspectives and needs of women educators are central to the union’s agenda. The program underscored the union’s commitment to gender equity, professional growth, and building a more inclusive and representative organization.
“This workshop is more than just training; it’s an investment in the future of our union and the quality of education in Zimbabwe,” said a union official. “When we empower our women members with knowledge and leadership tools, we strengthen our collective voice to advocate for better working conditions, gender-sensitive policies, and a more equitable education system for all.”
The event was met with enthusiastic participation and is part of the union’s ongoing strategic plan to enhance member engagement, promote diversity in leadership, and ensure that all educators have the support and skills needed to thrive in their profession.
